Deer Season, Round 2

Firearm deer season round 2 for 2010 has been, um, completed i guess. but to probably worse results than the first season. i went out for probably 45 minutes after i got home from work on friday but thats all the hunting i did. so i can not give you too much of a good report myself. i can tell you that the few people that i did talk to told me that this season produced nothing more than a few squirrels and birds and maybe a gunshot here and there. i did a little talking around. and the people that i had talked to said they had not seen anything really. really at this point it does not surprise me with the way that first season went. second season is traditionally less successful than first, and with the way that first went, i didnt think it was possible. one theory that i have for it being worse is that people set their stands up based on what they think the deer movement patterns are. with the dry weather lately and warmer than normal temperatures (i am going based on the whole year in general and not the recent spurt of cold and rain), the deer have shifted their movement patterns. this has thrown every bit of scouting that a hunter did in the offseason out the window. i wll admit that the scouting that i did helped me very little. you did have the occasional lucky hunter who still was set up over a good spot, such as a bedding.... but for the most part no one had too much luck. well we still have two more late seasons in play, but i doubt they do any good. i guess its about time to start clearing out squirrels again. those buggers were infested around my stand.
